Franklin County Family SupportsLocal disability resources in plain language

SSA means two different things. Here is which is which.

Updated 2026-10-07. General information, not legal or benefits advice.

Families hear SSA in two very different places. Mixing them up causes a lot of confusing phone calls.

SSA at the county board

At the Franklin County Board of Developmental Disabilities, SSA means Service and Support Administrator. Many people call this person a Service Coordinator. They help assess needs, build the Individual Service Plan each year, help you choose providers, and coordinate services.

SSA for benefits

SSA also stands for the Social Security Administration, the federal agency that handles SSI and SSDI benefits and representative payees.

A simple rule

  • Questions about services, providers, or the plan: call your Service Coordinator.
  • Questions about a monthly benefit check, SSI, SSDI, or a payee: call Social Security.
